Mens grooming tips to looking dapper on your wedding day
We need less stuff to worry about in our lives, not more. That's why a simple skincare routine for men is essential. If you’re a minimalist with your grooming products or have no idea about the difference between cleanser and pomade, keep reading.
Whether or not you care about how you look, everyone wants to look back on their wedding day and know they were looking their best.
Create a skin routine
Finding the right skincare for your skin type can take some trial and error. At a minimum, get yourself a decent cleanser and use it twice daily, when you wake up and before you go to bed. This will keep your pores clear, prevent breakouts and minimise shine.
Moisturise, again twice daily, this will hydrate your skin as well as protect your skin throughout the day. If you want to go an extra step, use a night cream while you sleep.
Twice a week is when you exfoliate, this goes deep into the pores and removes all the dead skin cells, helping you achieve a brighter complexion and minimising wrinkles. Exfoliate before you shave to help cut down on ingrown hairs.
You can dive much deeper and get into toners, eye cream and wrinkle cream but this 3-step regime is a great place to start and will have you looking fresh for your wedding day and every day after.
The week before the big day, ask your future wife to get an extra face mask for you, it will be a fun time for both of you and your skin will glow. Maybe you can give each other massages while the mask sets.
We always suggest shelling out on some decent products, once you do you won't go back to that cheap crap you got at Woolworths. Head to Men's Biz, they have a huge range with great reviews and product descriptions.
Invest in a good barber
With the explosion of samurai level barbers coming onto the scene, there is no excuse not to have a fresh cut perfectly styled for your face shape, hair texture, and lifestyle. We can not recommend enough having a regular barber that you trust. For us, we’d rather look scruffy and unkempt for a month than let anyone else cut our hair.
Gone are the days of running into a shopping center and letting someone hack into your head for 15 minutes. Expect to carve out 60 minutes of your week. Barbers aren’t what they used to be. Now it’s all about great banter and sometimes enjoying a beer with the lads.
A decent barber won't let you leave with a dumpster fire and they will flat out tell you a style you want will look bad on you. Not everyone can be Brad Pitt and pull off any style. Trust them, they’ve got your back.
Everyone's hair is different, what shampoo, conditioner, and styling products will best suit is for you to decide. Move away from the crap at the supermarket and consult with your barber on the best products for your hair.
As for shampoo and conditioner, move over to a natural/vegan product. This will keep the natural oil production in check, leaving you with much fuller hair and none of those 'I just washed it' fluff days. Your head will thank you.
Beard culture is here to stay
Beards, whether you grew a beard to mask a lack of personality, you hate shaving or you wanted to feel like a Viking, beard culture is here to stay. With this comes good news, you now have plenty of premium products and grooming tools to help keep your beard in check. You don't want to be confused with an actual Viking, just one found on tv.
Before your big day, trial exactly how you want your beard to look, shell out for that nice beard trimmer, learn how to fade your fade, and find yourself a decent beard oil and brush. When we say ‘trail before the big day’, we mean over months, not the week before. When you roll into the big day you won't even have to worry about grooming your beard, it will be good to go.
Beards can be great, chest hair can also be great, but they should never meet
One final point, beards can be great, chest hair can also be great, but they should never meet, make sure you keep your skin clear from your Adam's apple to any hair poking out from a crew neck T-shirt.
Those pearly whites
Teeth are something we hardly notice but when they are white they stand out. Get into a teeth whitening regime either from a dentist or using one of the many products available. Consult with your dentist before commencing treatment.
