Melbourne wedding suppliers doing great things right now

Melbourne is an amazing city for creatives and the wedding space is no exception. We put together a list of some of the real trailblazers who are pushing the envelope in the biz.

Three legends (Dee Brinsmead, Anthony Cribbes and Sarah Dobson) noticed an increase in demand from couples who wanted a smaller, low fuss wedding, but their grandmother’s also said the registry office was uncouth. That’s how the ‘Hippest little wedding chapel this side of Vegas’ came to be, offering low fuss weddings that bring on all the feels without the drama and price tag attached.

With neon lights, plush velvet lounges and a ceiling dripping with chains and disco balls, The Altar Electric is the stuff of all your glam rock / 70’s disco dreams. You can even get married by the king of rock himself, Elvis, if you really want your wedding to rock!

Ok, so everyone’s gone a little nuts for indoor plants lately (and rightfully so) so what if we told you that you could get married surrounded by them? In the industrial heart of Cremorne is Glasshaus Inside, a magical space that acts as a plant nursery by day, wedding oasis by night. You will feel like you are holding your reception in The Secret Garden. Just 5 minutes up the road is Glasshaus Outside in Richmond where you can say ‘I do’ or hold a day time reception in a Greenhouse!

With exposed brick and beams and walls blanketed in plants, there’s no need for additional styling in this rustic warehouse. Also unique to this industrial space is the freedom they offer you to use whatever suppliers you like.

Flowers

Bloom Boy

There is nothing like a well-tailored floral suit to help you find your calling in life. That is exactly how Ross Jenkins a.k.a Bloom boy found his, on his wedding day, saying "I do" in a sharp jacket covered in flowers. Hailing from a fashion design career in London he now threads a vintage-kitsch, high fashion love child into all his work.

Bloom Boy isn’t afraid to experiment with colours, textures and unexpected materials. Not only are the floral arrangements bold, abstract and never predictable, it is the backdrops, installations and wearables that really blow your mind, leaving every one of your guests saying "this has to be a Bloom Boy".

If you are looking for ways to make your wedding eco friendly, a sit down with Marnie is one you should schedule in. She is constantly looking for ways to be at the top of the eco-friendly game. Sourcing seasonally and locally grown every chance she can.

Expect her to take any brief you throw at her, She will happily interpret something as brief as "darkish purple" or daft as "I’d like a single plum floating in perfume served in a man's hat". Marnie loves designing non-traditional, creative floral and botanical designs, inspired by nature and the changing of the seasons to create something truly unique.

What happens when you grow up with a grandmother decorating cakes and a mother who was a seamstress, a career in fashion and a degree in product development and design? A wildly unique food fashion blend, equal parts aesthetic, equal parts delicious.

No $4 coles mud cake here! The really special thing about Mirjana’s cakes is that they are made from eggs straight from the chooks in the yard, honey from her mother’s hive and quality ingredients like real butter and hazelnuts.

One More Song

Really, these guys had us at ‘No more Nutbush!’. Eddy and Aleks Mac are partners in life and business and weddings are their forte. This means that not only the tunes are slapping but they also know how to get everyone grooving, from your nephew cutting shapes to your grandmother whipping her hair back and forth.

Like a duck swimming in a pond, they are all chill above water but underneath they are working tirelessly behind the decks to ensure the musical journey bangs when it needs to bang, builds when it needs to build and chills when it needs to chill. They will know your musical vibe before the big day and they will mix it perfectly all night long. Don’t take it from us though, you can check out some of their sample DJ mixes here

True Romance Photobooth

You know you’re in for something really unique when a business is born as a result of a lack of available options. Leading up to Tatum and Matt’s wedding, they struggled to find a unique photobooth that matched their theme - retro / mid-century with a hint of western...so they decided to make one! That’s how True Romance and the ‘Alabama’ 1958 Globetrotter Photobooth dream came to be. The caravan even comes with a mini cacti garden; vintage beach chair and table set up; and loads of props.

Celebrant

Prue Takle

Prue had such a fantastic experience with her jeweller while designing her own engagement ring that she needed to be someone who gave that same feeling to others. Boasting a BA of creative arts - Theatre & Creative Writing, celebrancy came to her as another outlet for those creative love juices.

The great thing about Prue is her ‘Prueness’. ‘Prueness’ is a spark, a vibe, creativity and connection that is highly addictive and sure to make the ceremony the party starter and not the boring thing you push through to get to the open bar.

Emily Carr

Someone threw a rom com fan, a hopless romantic, a comedian, a writer and a singer in a pot, seasoned with some Ukulele talent and marinaded them in a 10 year career in the arts, and out came Emily Carr. Now understand, you’re not just getting a marriage celebrant, you’re getting a complete one man band*. Think the blonde version of Alison Brie from Community, she’s been known to not only hold a crowd but actually have them singing along too.

*Ukulele inclusion dependant on level of aversion to said ukulele.

Jewellery

James and Irisa

These game-changing jewellers are making opals fresh again by crafting wedding bands and engagement rings with more character than a Tolkien bad guy. Opals are believed to hold magical powers and to represent loyalty, which is why they are the perfect stone to feature on the ring finger. So inspired by the opal, these guys have dedicated their jewellery line to it.

It’s James and Irisa’s textural designs and off-kilter settings that turn the once ‘naff’ opal into something Gollum would want to cradle in a cave. Go for the Opals, but make sure you check out their unique flavour of diamonds, sapphires and other precious stones.

Miško Jewellery

If clean sculpted lines are more your vibe, slide over to Miško. These guys take the ancient craft of jewellery making and smash it into the 21st century. Ele is a true artisan when it comes to ring candy, bringing you geometric pieces with clean lines alongside natural stones, bi-coloured and rare gems. Sure to make your ‘I said yes’ Instagram post blow up.

What really sets these guys apart is the personalised, tailored experience they offer. Friends of ours luckily had the same ring size so they got interlocking wedding and engagement rings from Misko. When Kym proposed to Alex they had the opposite colours and then swapped them back when they got married. Cuteness overload!
