5 of our favourite engagement portrait locations in and around Perth

There are so many vast and interesting landscapes throughout Perth and the hills that make for the perfect backdrop for your engagement portrait session. Below are 5 locations that will ensure your engagement session is something really special.

1. Fremantle

Fremantle one is at the top of our list for a reason, it’s one of the most beautiful historic locations around Perth. This is the best place to meet up, wonder around and see where the day takes you. From the beautiful colonial buildings with small laneways, to the café and bar scene, bustling market, and majestic port there’s not a wrong direction you can take.

It’s super convenient for most people with busy schedules if we need to fit you in after work and there a is a coffee shop and bar every 7 meters when we need to stop for a break.

We both grew up in Perth and are always discovering cute new spots for portraits.

2. Hyde Park/ Harold Boas / Perth City

These beautifully maintained, to die for gardens in the heart of Perth offer so many different types of scenery from lakes with majestic trees to waterfalls. There is so much to see and even more places for us to capture those cute moments for you without leaving the city.

Due to the central city location we can go through some alleyways, get some drinks at a bar and use the city as the backdrop.

3. John Forrest National Park

The vast bush land, boulders and tranquil landscapes that make up John Forrest National Park makes it our version of California’s Joshua Tree national park. We also get an abandoned train tunnel to boot which allows us to shoot some really contrasty portraits or even something a little spooky. It’s a nice little hike for the adventurous couples out there. The sun sets over the valley making for some interesting milky back drops.

Located at the edge of Perth, overlooking the city, your engagement photos are sure to have that adventurous, arid bush aesthetic.

4. Cottesloe Civic Centre

This has long been an idyllic and a local landmark featuring a substantial two storey building with white walls and an orange tiled roof in the Spanish Mission style.

The stone work of the main lawn stage at Cottesloe Civic Centre creates a beautiful setting for majestic portraits, while walking around the various aptly named secret gardens and the rotunda creates opportunities for more intimate portraits.

5. Araluen Botanic Park

Situated in a sheltered valley in the Darling Ranges is 150 acres of exotic plants in Perth hills oldest botanic garden.

Picture this: walls of rock, a serene lake, blooming azaleas and orchids surrounding you and enormous stone pillars and shaded jarrah pergolas creating the perfect backdrop. If you’re looking for the best hidden forest photo op, this is it.

If your wedding is a farmstead, hotel, city or anywhere vastly different, this can provide your engagement photos with a great contrast from your wedding photos.
